CANCER: Little By Little....My Life is Returning!


There have been a lot of negatives along the way from chemo treatments, however, one of the worst… and one of the things that we often take for granted… is taste of food. It either tasted horrible, it had no taste at all, or it was so painful that I could not bear to eat.


One food group that I absolutely love is salad. Today, Michael and I ordered pizza from an awesome family owned restaurant in Moody, Carpenetti's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria. I have not been able to eat it or enjoy it since I started chemo. So, I thought I would really go out on a limb today and also make a small salad to go with it.

Guess what!?! 

I am dancing a HAPPY DANCE!!!!

 I can taste both and they both taste awesome!!!!!! I am SO EXCITED! It has been months since I could eat and enjoy my food. Believe me, it is no small blessing! All of you who have been on chemo...and have had this experience...know exactly what I am talking about. Thank You God! 

 My hair is starting to grow back, my oxygen levels are getting better, I am getting stronger, and now my taste is starting to return. Little by little I feel my life (my normal), pre-cancer and especially pre-chemo treatments, coming back to me.

Tomorrow, will be four (4) weeks since my last chemo treatment....already four weeks. Also, tomorrow morning at 8:30 I have a consultation with my Breast Surgeon, Dr. Princess Thomas, to discuss my reconstruction options. God continues to lead my journey....just as He is healing me day by day. I know that with His guidance, the best decision will be made for me.

“I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the LORD, do all these things." Isaiah 45:7 
God, Who is so mighty and so powerful....God, Who can do ALL....what have I to fear? God, our Father, our Holy Creator, and the Great Physician....I can certainly put my life in His Hands and know that He WILL take care of me....He WILL heal me with a complete earthly healing!

I thank all of you for continuing to lift me in your prayers.

    Thank you dear sister friend! Every step forward....no matter how small....is a victory. I am so happy and excited to be able to taste food again. For me, that is a huge win! I feel like I have been waiting for this day for so long, but the journey is worth it if I can be cancer free with a complete earthly healing. Amen! God is leading! Your prayers are working wonders in my life!

Update: Liver Biopsy - PET Scan - Treatment Changes

  As most of you already know, I had a Liver Biopsy, a PET Scan, and a Bloodwork Profile and I have waited to get all results prior to writing a blog post update. I also had a lengthy consultation with my Oncologist, Dr. Bondly, yesterday.  First, I want to start off with a Super Praise God moment! My Liver Biopsy confirmed that my cancer has not changed to Her2-. It remains ER+ Her2+. That means we have been on the right treatment path. There is a strong possibility, however, that the Femara, Letrozole, that I took for 18 months did not work. It is a hormone based chemotherapy taken orally. It was to help lower my hormone and estrogen levels which in-turn was to help fight my cancer. We will find out more about that from the genetic portion of the Liver Biopsy when the results come back in about 3 weeks. CANCER: A New Complication.....My Heart

I met today with the Cardiologist, Dr. Monica Hunter, at the Southview Cardiology, that I was referred to by my Medical Oncologist....Dr. Bondly. About three weeks ago, I did not feel well all day. I started to feel pressure on my chest and then had pain in my left arm. I took an aspirin, but never got to feeling better. I felt nauseated most of the day. I went to bed a bit earlier than usual and around 4:00 I woke up throwing up profusely. I threw-up a few times and then it stopped. I thought that maybe it was a virus, but also knew that it could be a heart issue.  When I met with Dr. Bondly last week, I told her what had occurred and she suggested that I see a Cardiologist. Since chemo and radiation can potentially cause heart issues, she did not want me to let it go unchecked. CANCER: Dark Days with the "Demon" Cancer....BUT God Shines Through! Amen!

Yesterday was a day filled with so many different emotions, senses, and information over-load....yet, so many unknowns. I had a scheduled appointment with my Oncologist, Dr. Cara Bondly for my follow-up since my last chemo treatment on January 23rd. She gave me a brief check-up and did lab work. Since I was only one week out from my bilateral mastectomy, there wasn't much for her to check physically. She did go over the pathology report from my surgery with me.  I was very disappointed to learn that following chemotherapy treatments there were still "live/active" cancer cells in one of the five lymph nodes that were removed during surgery. They were only 2 mm; however, they were active and the report could not definitively tell me if I have a live cell/cells that could have moved outside of the lymph node.
